The World Agility Open Championships takes place between 14th and 18th May 2024 in Ermelo, Netherlands.

Arrival will be at latest 12th May 2024 morning.

There will be three individual competitions (Biathlon, Games, Pentathlon) and a Team Competition.

Here you can find more information about the competitions at the WAO.

Website of the WAO: www.worldagilityopen.com

Since people were wondering why there were teams at WAO that didn't qualify, here's the explanation: as read in the Selection Guidelines - see pdf below - (this document has been accepted by the WAO and is published on the official site too), a person who wins a spot can dispose of it and may, for example, run individual competitions with another dog (of the same height category) or hand over a partner/friend/colleague etc with another dog of the same height category.

Team 2025

Per Height Category three dogs can qualify (for 250 category 2 dogs).

For the Junior Handlers: One dog per height category can qualify.

There will be a comined ranking list over al runs with accumulated points:

1st Rank gets 20 points, 2nd rank 19 points and so on until 20th rank 1 point. If there are less competitors per category, the points will be adjusted accordingly (15 dogs - winner gets 15 points).

In the event of a tie, the dog with the better accumulated score (running time and fault/refus points together) of Agility and Jumping will be considered. An elimination counts 50 seconds and 50 points (score: 100).

Precondition Handler

The competition is open for persons with swiss citizenships or permanent residency in Switzerland.

Persons born on or after 1st May 2006 please enter as "junior" Handler on the inscription.

I expect a friendly treatment of dogs at all time!

Precondition Dog

Dogs need to be minimum 18 months old to participate at the WAO.

Sick, blind or pregnant dogs are not allowed to compete.

Please let me know if your bitch is in season shortly before the competition.

The dog needs to have a valid rabies vaccination.

The dog does not need to have an FCI pedigree.

Height categories WAO

For the estimated height category, please use the list below.

As we do not have official WAO measurements here - if a dog is tight at the border between two categories, it makes sense to choose the higher categry, because:

  • If a dog is measured at the WAO higher than he was entered (for example a dog was entered as 300, but measured then as 400), it will lead to problems. The dog is not allowed to comepte (except if the measurement was only up to 5mm too high).
  • If a dog - in the reversed case - would be entered in a category higher then measured (for example a dog would be entered as a 300, but would be measured as a 250), the dog can still compete at the WAO 2025 in the entered category (300 in the example) and would be a 250 dog in a future WAO.

Since there are always tight cases regarding size categories/cut-off, there is no possibility for an official WAO measurement in Switzerland and I want to prevent at all costs that someone qualifies and then cannot start on site, I now have the following procedure in consultation with the WAO organizer developed:

A judge will measure the dogs (optional - highly recommended for borderline cases) the morning before qualifying and if you then see that a dog has been classified incorrectly, it will be reassigned. If a size category is not available due to unnecessary qualification (e.g. because there were just as many registrations as places by the registration deadline), it is not possible to switch to this size category, since the "tickets" there are then already taken.

In the evening, when the team is determined, all qualified dogs (that have not been measured in the morning or have a WAO measurement) will be measured. If one of these dogs is then too big for the category, its starting place will be forfeited in favor of the next dog on the ranking list.
